Underground Artist Index is an index of the artists worth knowing about — underground electronic, hyperpop, hyper-trap, rap, alt-pop, experimental, indie, folk, and whatever else is good. It exists because this scene moves faster than anybody is writing it down, and because most of these artists are impossible to find unless you already know their names.

There is no genre policy. If it's good and it's under-heard, it gets a file.

How it works

Every artist gets one page: what they sound like, what they've released, and who they sit next to. Guides answer a specific question — the kind you'd actually ask someone whose taste you trust. Reviews cover individual releases. Dispatch is shorter notes on things as they happen.

Artists are cross-linked automatically based on shared sound and on appearing in the same writing, so following one thread usually turns up three more.

Who runs it

One person, working without a byline. No staff, no masthead, no press list. That's deliberate — the writing should stand on whether the recommendations are any good, not on whose name is attached.

Corrections and requests

If something here is wrong — a date, a credit, a lineup, an attribution — it gets fixed. If you're an artist and you want your file changed or taken down, that request gets honored, no argument.
