Cicada's new single ships with its own remix attached

Happy You're Here arrived 28 August as a two-track release — the song, and a remix of it by ideasforconversations, out the same day.

Cicada released Happy You're Here on 28 August via R&R Digital. Two tracks, and the second is the interesting one:

  1. Happy You're Here
  2. Happy You're Here — ideasforconversations Remix

Shipping the remix with the single rather than three weeks later is a small structural choice with a real effect. The usual pattern is to release, wait for attention to fade, then push a remix to buy a second cycle. Bundling them makes the remix part of the record instead of a follow-up — and it means the first time most people hear the song, they hear it twice.

It is the second time this fortnight the index has caught this shape. Tommy Fleece's Plus, out the day before, was seven remixes across ten tracks. Two data points is not a trend, but the collaborative remix is doing more work in this scene than the format usually gets credit for.

Cicada has 4,737 monthly listeners; ideasforconversations has 28,729. Neither has been written about anywhere.
